Doug Varone

American dancer, choreographer, and artistic director

[choosing his dancers] I look for people that have information that I don’t have, different ways of moving, different vocabularies in their bodies that I can draw from and be inspired by. – Doug Varone

Born New York City, November 5, 1956.
Doug Varone became a member of the José Limón Dance Company in 1978 and the following year joined the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company. He remained with that company until 1986 when he left to pursue his own choreographic interests. Since then, he has created works for more than a dozen different dance companies internationally, in addition to his own. He has received choreographic fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation.
